17 Hornet is home at last....

The "Night Vader" is home.....I had the goodies on it in record time...almost like a one man NASCAR pit crew...lol

So the paperwork said:

-Clean and check complete bolt action
-Remove burrs (bolt action)
-Headspace (good)
-Function fire_passed

Can't wait to get on the range and re-zero and then splash some G'Hogs...

Crossing fingers that it's demons are gone....

I painted my stock a week or so ago I should post up some pics in my old thread or make a new one.,,,,, I think I'll do that.

I have the Primos trigger stick now but want to try an attached bipod one day.

As I said before, I wish you the best, hope it is a shooter now so you can keep it and enjoy it.

Thanks JTank70, I will let you guys know how it runs. I would love to see your stock so post up! I don't think my Son will let me paint it....he was the one who came up with "Night Vader"...lol

You will soon enough....and....NEGATIVE on the 600 yarder. I think I will keep both the 17 Hornet and myself well within our limitations.....the Hornet being too light and shifty, and me being too heavy and gimpy....lol

Yeah I'm dying to cycle some rounds through it.....going to be a tough week with a heavy mind filled with wonder....Friday is the soonest I can get to the range with work and my Son's football practices filling all the voids...

So.....took her out to the range....not too thrilled. Bolt is still "sticky". Still had failure to feed/double feed, and failure to extract with the bolt locking in the closed position twice. I only shot 200yds....best I could do was 2.5 moa....yuck. To top it off, a couple rounds seemed very weak and barely made a "poof" of a report with the bullet being 5 inches outside the group...yuck. I fired off an entire box through her. So, although it still had bugs it was far better than when I sent it back to Savage...except the accuracy is now jacked up....but I think that may be the ammo.

So...(Part 2).....MD Archer and I went out this evening for a Ghog hunt. I only had one hog to shoot at. A big silver porker at a laser distance of 293 yards. Missed all three shots sent at it....but, they all cycled without a hitch. First time ever.

So while I'm not 100% satisfied with this rifle I think I will still keep shooting it as much as possible. Maybe it will break in....or just "give in" to my desire of the perfect fox rifle. I hope so.....as of now I would not be confident hunting at night with it operating the way it does.

TSK TSK Savage.....you struck out twice regarding Quality Insurance...(with this particular rifle anyway).
