What groups do you ar guys expect

I got my bushmaster varminter back after I sent it in for an accuracy issue as stated in an earlier post. They said after test firing that there was a problem. They rechamfered the crown and then sent it back at no charge with their test target which was exactly 1 inch @ 100 yards. I am not exactly impressed. Am i over reacting or should I expect better. Stag boasts 1/2 moa but from what I read they wont really hold that. A lot of other say their RRA guns will shoot 1/2 moa as well. I will try her out this weekend but I doubt I can shoot it any better off the bench than they can with a gun vice. What should I expect? I shoot hand loaded 55 gr. v-maxes from a very reputable reloader. They always shot slightly better than factory Hornady. Do I need to sell this thing? What say you??

1 inch at 100yrds turns into 2 inch at 200yrds. What load were they shooting?
55gn V-Max should give you .5 or better with the right handloads at 100yrds.

1st group 1.25"
2nd group 2.5"
3rd group 2"
4th 5"
5th 3".

In order to get the best accuracy you need to tailor the load to the individual firearm. If you don't load your own ammo try a number of different factory loads.

I have to agree with Weasel you need to taylor a hand load for each gun not to sound arragent but if i have a group larger than one inch at 300 Yrds then im not happy. So it will take time to figure it out but in the long run it is worth it.

If that rifle is brand new what have you done to break the barrel in? is it a stainless barrel?

No, it is not stainless. Gun in 5 years old, was broke in properly, has about 1000 rounds through it, and has never shot any factory or hand loads moa. I shot 3" groups with it at 200 and 1.5" at 100 before I sent it to Bushmaster 3 weeks ago. They confirmed it DID have an accuracy issue. I got it back now it shoots any where from 1.25" to 5" at 100 with the loads that shot the best before I sent it in. My slug guns shoot better than this. It has a 3-9x40 vx i on it that is lapped in and everything is tight. I don't trust it to hunt with and would feel guilty selling such a pile! I understand different guns, twist rates, etc like different loads but come on 5" groups! I can shoot twice that good with a smooth bore slug gun and iron sights. They test fired with 55 grain something.

Coyotejim what barrel lenght is you rra? I am looking at a Stag model 6. 24" bull barrel and 9.4 lbs. I hate all that weight as I always carry my 11-87 supermag as well but I want accuracy. At 850 dollars it seems like a good value and I like the .5 moa guarantee. Just need to get rid of mine I guess I am afraid I am wasting my time with Bushmaster. I realize the world isn't perfect but if Bushmaster can't fix a problem the first time they probably wont in ten times and I don't want the headaches I want dead coyotes and a sub moa gun. I orderd a 4-12x40 vx i Friday, I was hoping that would help clean up the fuzz at 200 yards but I don't thing I will even bother put ring marks on it on this thing.

Varminter,
I have the Varmint EOP with a 20" barrel, weight is 9.5lbs.
If weight is a concern go with the Predator Pursuit 20" barrel, weight is 8.1lbs.
20" barrels are the perfect fit. You can get them in 16", but you will loose around 150fps. 24" are to heavy and bulkey to carry around.

I have great loads figured out for the RRA, if you need help.

Had the same problem with the Bushmaster, spent alot of time trying to get it to shoot good, RRA night and day differance.
