Default Turkey scouting tip

Just thought I'd pass along a turkey scouting tip that may help some of the newer hunters. Years ago, I discovered that one of the areas to key on is farm roads that pass through wooded areas, especially where deer or cattle trails cross the road. You need to look for areas where turkeys dust regularly, and they are easy to find if you know what you are looking for. It kind of looks like it has been scraped out by a big old buck deer.

One very productive dusting spot was on a big tract of land in Barren County, Ky. and it had all the elements needed. The farm road wound through a flat area of woods, and real near a sharp bend in the road, a deer trail crossed and continued toward a nearby ridge. This is a good place to intercept turkeys on their way to their afternoon feeding areas. They stir up a regular cloud of dust when they are actively dusting, and you can get away with a good deal of moving as it covers up the noise you might make.
