Spring is a great time to kill some big coyotes. Use turkey decoys and sounds like turkey gobbler fight to fool some wise old coyotes. Coyotes take a gobbler fight as a good time to win the fight and earn a dinner. Also, a motion hen and turkey yelps will get the job done.

I have called several Coyotes in by using Pup in Distress sounds on my FP Caller and mouth calls also....just called in a nice Coyote Friday on a rabbit in distress mouth call but couldn't get it to stop and rushed the shot while it was moving and missed...took another shot while it was in a full run and almost got it but alas missed again!

GTOHunter, I don't doubt that a bit, but this thread was about a spring tip for taking coyotes.

possumal - what are your thoughts on coyotes in the spring in an area with very few fox but lots of difficult coyote. I was considering trying a few red fox rally barks to get the attn. of an enemy , waiting 5 min , then switching up between various red and grey fox pup sounds. its heavily pressured state game land in pa and im sure they have heard every popular call mfg coyote vocalization and rabbit sound there is. I was thinking if I threw something new at them....... ?

Your idea sounds like it has merit. If it doesn't work, I'd try to start out with coyote & fox fight, and then switch to fox distress, back to the fight, switch to coyote pup distress, back to the fight, and so on. Call shy coyotes are usually responsive to fox pup distress when they won't respond to anything else.

Even if you don't have any decoys out, they will still come to the turkey sounds, especially a gobbler fight.

I don't think it is a FoxPro sound but any of the turkey sounds will work. As far as how long to play it, you have to use your own judgment. On most busy sounds like that, I'll usually play them for a minute or two and then watch for a minute or so. I have killed a lot of coyotes using hen yelps while turkey hunting.
