22/250 vs Coyotes better bullet

I'm looking to try a different bullet in my T/C 22/250 for coyotes. I know a 22/250 is the upper end on fur keeper list of cartridge, but.
The alternative is my 6, there is NO fur bullet for the 6. Anyway.
Right now I'm using Berger 52 gr hunting bullets.
Supper accrete and semi fur friendly. BUT they don't always "Kill". I know a LOT of my shots on coyotes are not Steller but some run offs are a surprise. I used some Winchester 45gr factory shells in the beginning, they shot well. The listed velocity is 4000 fps. They were a Varmint bullet but They where horrible killing coyotes, A LOT of run offs and tended to "Splash" on the shoulder shot and not enter the body. Then I used game king 53 gr shot VERY well but tended not to open up on very close shots and act like a FMJ. Great on fur but I had to chase most ALL the coyotes.

In My 6 I use Varmageddon 55 gr at 4200 fps.
There are no run offs but the fur takes a beating.

I've used Sierra #1365, 55 gr. spitzer boat tails since 1971. I shoot a real mind load. I've been happy enough with the killing performance and fur friendliness that I've used them in all 3 of my 22-250's.

I think you would have had better results with the 52 Berger Match bullets. I used to have excellent results in a 243 shooting 58 v-max, but I slowed them down to around 3,750 and stayed off the shoulders.

Late responding but totally agree with Weasel on the 55 gr Sierra Spitzer Boattail for your 22-250 for both accuracy and being fur friendly. I say fur friendly as long as the shots are in excess of 100 Yards, less than that and it'll take some serious seamstress work.

I may be a little prejudiced toward Sierra, but that is because of never catching Paul Box, ballistic technician, anywhere close to wrong on various calibers. In the 22 caliber category, as well as the 6mm column, just go with the Sierra Blitzking, and you'll get a real shooter in all aspects. Flat shooting, great terminal performance, and really fur friendly if you hit them solid in the shoulder or even the chest.. I have posted a close up picture several times of a skinned out male coyote, shot dead center in the shoulder at just over 300 yds, double DRT, not even a quiver. Unbelievable damage to the internal workings of a big coyote, everything from brain all up and down the spine, with no exit hole at all. I can and will send you a closeup or two if you send me your email address via PM.

Two friends of mine, one in Tennessee, and one in Ky., have tested the Blitz King in various calibers, all on paper, with great performance. They both swear by the Blitz King. So did Paul Box, and so do I. Not knocking any other brand at all.

I started with Sierra Blitzking, maybe 55 gr, don't remember.
They shot great but I had gobs of runoffs like FMJ.
Little fur damage but I got tired of tracking for miles...

My experience has been exactly opposite on several calibers. My grandson, Josh, was shooting a 204 and his friend was loading some high speed fad, and he got into a small pack in a huge pasture. Rifle was dead on, and he was knocking coyotes down, and they got up and ran out of the field like they were drunk. He got all shook up, only picking up 2 out of 5 he knocked down with solid shoulder shots. I loaded him some Blitz Kings and his problem stopped. All were DRT after that.
I've never had anybody report Blitz Kings in any caliber, loaded correctly, result in run offs, or problems with terminal performance. I guess there is always a first for anything, but that has been my experience and that of friends.

The Nosler BT's with their solid base is another good one.
I'm more of a 17Rem, 204 kind of person for saving fur, but this year I'm going to experiment with the old Speer 52gr. hp flat base in a 223. Fur is pretty worthless around here so it is not going to matter if the pelt is damaged. I don't want any splashes needless to say, but big exit holes won't bother me.

Speaking of splashes.
My son and I were out the other day calling He shoots a 17 hornet K normally but had a 204 this day. We called on in on his side it was maybe 200 yards. He was shooting a 40 gr V-Max 3800 fps. A very good shot broadside. It hit a rib bone and must have "Slpashed" It took out 5 ribs and the lung actually fell out of the hole. No penetration into the lung, The coyote ran for another 100 yards.
This is the off-side.




As for the 22/250, I'm now using a Hornady 60 gr soft point with very good results, No runoffs, and little fur damage so far so good.

Ive had really good success with the Sierra 52 gr bthp match bullet in my AR and have them going at 3,000 fps, but that load give me 1/2 MOA or slightly under if I do my part. Very similar bullet to what Les Johnson swears by, only he likes the Hornady 52 gr bthp match bullet for his 22-250. I’ve also had great success with the 35 and 40 gr Berger bullets for my 204 Ruger.
