Default Sun shades at night??

No, this is not a Corey Hart reference..Running a new Vortex scope with a 56mm obj. and it came with a sun shade...I have never used one ever and I understand the proper intended use but I figured I'd do an experiment.. if that is what you want to call it..and put it on last night. I wanted to see if there was a difference in anything really. Does the scope gather less light? or how about with the kill light on? Does it change how I view the V-Brite illuminated dot?..I assume it would hinder and not help in most aspects..jury is still out. Anyone else try?? Or am I nuts?? P.S. I am not easily offended..

I also have the hog hunter scope. Have made a few shots with the sunshade on. Have not needed the red dot lit up, can see well without it illuminated so far. Have not tried without sunshade.
