My favorite Go to Predator Rifle is my Savage 12VLP in .204 Ruger. The 39 gr. Sierra BlitzKing bullet has been working great on coyotes for the past three fur seasons. That bullet is leaving the muzzle of my rifle at about 3,850 fps. Here's the old Savage 12VLP after a successful coyote calling stand:
![]() I had a .17 Tactical built in August and didn't have enough time to get a great coyote load worked up for the 30 gr. BTHP Kindler Gold bullets. I was too busy having fun shooting prairie dogs while trying to fire form 500 of the Lapua .20 Tactical casings. I'll still try some of my 30 gr. Gold fire forming loads on coyotes because those loads were shooting very accurately, but about 150 fps slower than I wanted for coyote hunting. It was built on a trued Remington 700 BDL action and sits in an H-S Precision tactical thumbhole stock. The barrel is a 1 in 9" twist four groove stainless Lilja in Remington Varmint contour. The scope is a Sightron II 6.5-20x50mm side focus model with duplex crosshairs. I recently installed a Jewell HVR trigger in this rifle, but haven't had it out to shoot any live targets with it since the trigger install. The 1 pound pull setting might be a tad bit too light for winter hunting with gloves on, so I'm going to try to do some calling early this fall when I don't need gloves. If the 30 gr. Golds work great on coyotes, I will probably increase the pull weight a bit on the Jewell trigger, but I'm still favoring the use of my .204 Ruger for coyotes. Here's a photo of the .17 Tactical. ![]() |

In the last year or so, I have been really attached to my CZ 527 Varmint in the 204. I just love everything about it. Now after haveing it, I want the 527 American.

I'm still carrying my .17 Predator on almost every stand. It just works for me.

Right now I have to say my VTR in 22-250 or my 8 year olds Encore in 204 ruger both rifles will cut a ragged hole at 100 yds. But as a fan of the AR platform and owner of 5 AR's someday I hope Pa. will make it legal to use a semi. for hunting. 2 years ago I built myself a 24 inch flat top with a Nightforce 5.5 x 22 NXS on a Rock River lower It is almost boring to shoot it's so accurate.

I built my ideal predator hunting rifle. It's a 16" LW AR15 in 223 Remington. The match grade barrel is not only accurate, but the .625 diameter keeps it light and quick to handle. A YHM riser w/Burris Signature Zee rings holds a Bushnell Elite 4200 3-9x40 scope. A collapsable stock, Ergo grip and trigger work complete the rifle. It now wears digital camo instead of the normal black finish. MI VHNTR

Still shooting my old Ruger 77v in 220 Swift. Topped off now with a Bushnell Elite 6500 2.5 X 16 X 50. This old rifle just keeps shooting 1/2 inch groups after I put in a Timney trigger several years ago. Backup rifle Weatherby Vanguard in 243, Dave

That's tough. AR, normally. Bushy, Anvil Arms, RR. Just .223. If there's a chance for lion and it's season, Win 70 22-250 or Tikka 243.
Need to find another 220 Swift. When cleaning up my gun room I stumbled on a box of 1000 brand new 220 cases. Easier to get a rifle than sell the cases right? ![]() Last edited by Curt Barrett; 10-31-2009 at 10:43 PM. Reason: SP |
