Default 22 mag 17 hmr or 17 hornet for fox

Buying new gun for fox. I have the 17 hmr and looking at getting a 17 hornet or a 22 mag. What do you think for a fox gun.

I don't have a 22 hornet but I do have the .17 Hornet. It is an excellent fox gun. Furthest kill was 125 yards but I am confident it would perform well on fox beyond 200 yards. Not sure about the .22 Hornet but I don't think it's as flat shooting.

17 Hornet hands down. Had to many of them hang up outside of rimfire range. You can more then double you distance with a 17 Hornet over a 22mag. Can't kill'em if you can't reach em. Besides 17's are fur friendly.

I use a 17 Remington with Hornady 25gr hp #1710. Choreographed as to fast (a little over 4100fps.) don't ask the gun has had some work done to it and barrel life has helped put my gunsmiths kids threw college. Right now I'm waiting on a 204 and 17 Rem. barrel. During the summer i'm going to have him do a 17 Hornet or 17 mach IV/17 fireball not sure yet.
I've shot a 17 Rem since 1998 and only had one pass threw that was a poor shot on my part (winged a groundhog) other then that no pass threws.
You will see a big difference in a 17 Hornet verses a 17HMR or 22 mag. its just the nature of the little caliber.

I would say buy whatever you can find the best supply of ammo for.......not very easy to find 17 Hornet. It is flat but still has its limits. I would stay away from Savage if you do buy one....if your pockets are deep enough find a Ruger.

foxkicker, you say you are going to have your gunsmith build you a 17 hornet, mach IV/17 fireball. whats difference between them. I had my mind made up on 17 hornet, now you have me thinking I should have one built or get the fireball or mach. This is getting fun and I am learning a lot.
