Hunting is good...we called in two cats last weekend, but we were unable to take them as they were traveling together. Fortunately a couple other hunters got to see the whole thing...the bad thing is they know how we call now. One was a hunter shooting his bow in a tree stand, the lions went right underneath him. The other was a muzzle loader...we didn't even know he was there until we met him by the vehicles. They were pretty stoked...us...not so much...but it was cool to talk to them about it at least. My buddy Lee got a lion last year, the only day I didn't go with him due to knee surgery. We have got a couple more pinpointed, but have a hard time getting on their travel itinerary due to work...but hopefully this weekend he gets it...when I am not there of course! I will be out at a coyote video calling contest, Dupree Dog Days, I've been part of it for at least I think 5+ years now. I still have yet to call in a coyote here in the hills though. There are just too many people I think calling in this area and educating the dogs, and cats for that matter. I used to hunt pheasants and deer back east where I am originally from, but found I love predator hunting so much more...what a rush!!! If you get out this way let me know. I got family that live in Hill City and would love to call with you...gotta love this sport. Let me know.

Thanks, if I decide to come out I'll let you know. I have done very little calling for mt. lions been trying to track most of the time. Last year I sat on a fresh kill for four hours over by Mystic and the one I got come over the top of the mt. just before dark then sat behind a tree for about ten minutes before giving me a shot. I thought he looked small but I've never seen one in the wild before and didn't see any other cat around so I took him.
I found alot of small tracks this year and mom and cub tracks, got on one good size set for a little over three hours cat took me right over my own tracks then I heard two shots about a quarter mile ahead of me sat and waited to see if something would come my way, then headed back to truck(getting late). I think it may have been a deer hunter. I talk to everyone that I knew was hunting cats and they didn't hear of any being taken in the area.

Default 400+ coyote pelts shot in 3 months - dupree, sd

This is Tony and Terry Russell, and Rocky Longbrake, {Dupree, SD}.

You don't think we don't have a coyote problem in western South Dakota well think again!

These three boys shot over 400 hundred coyotes in western South Dakota from the first of November to the first week of February 2011.

There are 208 coyotes in this picture, the majority of the coyotes had mange and aren't pictured. Even so 208 is IMPRESSIVE!!!
