Coyote Hunting Canis latrans. Ky'ote. Ky'otee. Whatever you want to call it, it's one of the most popular predators hunted in the world today. |

Browning BAR Lightweight Stalker 243 with 20" barrel, put a Trijicon Reap IR Thermal scope on it and sighted it in with 55 grain Ballistic Tip bullets. Groups really nice with a 10" twist barrel.

Looks like one heckuva nocturnal death ray Sonny! Those 55 BT's at .243 velocity fold up coyote like a hammer. Without too much recoil. And I imagine that Reap IR is just pure pleasure to use.
I love it. Needs a suppressor though! ![]() - DAA

I have the suppressor on the Cooper Jackson Hunter 22-250, with a Trijicon IR Hunter Thermal mounted on it. It was already threaded, no extra work. The BAR wasn't threaded. But I understand your thinking.

Either way, it's going to be bad medicine for coyote!

Sonny, probably about half of all the coyotes I have ever seen my partner Tim kill with his .243 have been with the 55 BT. And it's the only bullet I use in my 6-284. It's very accurate in both rifles. Tim's old Model 70 has a 22" barrel which is 10 twist. They have an MV of ~4,000 fps from his rifle. My 6-284 has a 25", 13 twist Lilja. The 55's leave it at almost 4,300 fps.
Losing a coyote with either rifle, with just about any hit, is rare to the point of near non existence. My 6-284 on it's first day afield. It has since sprouted a TBAC Ultra 7 ![]() And Tim's trusty old Model 70. ![]() And what I believe to be the reason the 55 BT kills coyote so well even when pushed to well over 4,000 fps. ![]() That thick solid copper base. Which I think is the reason I always see lethal penetration with the 55 BT. Compared to the 58 Vmax, below. ![]() Not that the 58 Vmax doesn't kill coyote with authority. It does. But lethal penetration is not nearly as consistent as with the B-tip, in my experience. - DAA - DAA
