Default 51 lb. Male for Possumal

I decided to give my bad lower back and sciatica a test this afternoon, so I went out to one of my favorite farms to coyote hunt. When I got back the farm road to where it tees into a cross farm road, I saw a big coyote crossing the back pasture about 900 to 1000 yards away. I turned right and drove on across to get as far ahead of him as I could. Parked by a gate, and hustled back the fencerow to one of my favorite spots. Put the Fusion and decoy about 50 yards on up the fencerow and came back to my seat.

Started out with Female Invitational Howl 3 times, waited a couple of minutes, repeated 2 times. Waited a minute or so and switched to Female Submissive Howls and here he came right up the ridge where I thought he'd come from with the Southwest wind right in his face. That wind was taking my scent out over the big farm pond, perfect unless he decided to swim. When he got to a bush I have ranged many times at 260 yards, I turned on the decoy and he stopped to take a look. Big mistake as I put a 70 grain Blitz King dead center into his left shoulder, DRT.

I have killed quite a few coyotes on this farm and the wind is always out of the west or southwest. I have tried other wind directions many times with no luck at all on this particular farm.

Good going! I've taken to hunting with strong young men so they can do the heavy work.

Very nice AL! I like the caller on the tripod idea...less bending over. I had back surgery a couple weeks ago (Left L5-L4-S1) so I know how it can impact hunting!

Nicely done Al. Glad your back gave you enough peace to get out a bit!
