Default erasing the data or unplugging the batteries?.

my left speakers quit working on my shockwave and I had them replaced. it worked twice and on the third time I used the call I tried using the fox data for the first time and noticed the same speakers quit working again. I erased the fox data from the remote without plugging it into the computer then took the batteries out of the call and put them back in and the speakers are working again. is this normal?. am I doing something wrong?.
