Default Winchester SXP with Vortex Venom

I'm a new coyote hunter up here in Nova Scotia, Canada. After March 31st, we are limited to shotgun hunting for coyotes. Thinking about putting a multi - slot rail on a Winchester SXP, then mounting a Vortex Venom red dot scope on it ( never used a holographic or red dot scope before). Looking for any opinions or advice/ suggestions on this setup. I' ve got a Carlson coyote choke tube ordered and thinking about using #4 buck or 00 buck.Any advice on choke tubes and loads? Hoping to keep shots 50 yds and under. Thanks for any help.

#4 buck works well. There are other loads that work well too, such as Dead Coyote. Don't bother with 00 buck. There are too few pellets in a 00 load. As far as the choke tube goes, try several and pattern your gun with them. That's the only way you will know for sure which load and tube works best.

I have a red dot sight on my shotgun. It took a while to get used to it. At first I had a tendency to aim my shotgun like a rifle on a running animal. I wasn't leading them like I would with a bead front sight. I've often thought about removing the red dot.

Hey Weasel! Thanks for replying. ...yeah, I was wondering about the low pellet count with 00 buck. Will definitely try different tubes and loads....ever try BB? Eager to try the red dot scope. ..see how that works out. Thanks for the help and have a good day. ..BJ.

Hey Weasel ! Forgot to mention that the Hevi Shot Dead Coyote shells are about $75 for a box of 10. Found one dealer, ( half way across the country !! ) that carries it.Gonna try a box.

I've shot a few at close range with BB's and like them.

Keep looking. I think you can find them for less. I stocked up years ago so I had no idea how much they went up in price. When mine are gone I doubt if I'll buy more unless I can find a killer of a deal sale.

I think I'd try this stuff unless I reload something else.

I'd stay away from that HeviX if I were you Weasel. It's marketed very deceptively. It's not even as dense as lead, let alone heavier. Calling it "tungsten" is the skin of the truth filled with a lie.

Lead BB will work better. And lead BB is about as weak of sauce as I'd ever want to use on coyote.

Dave, Thanks for the reply. What have you been shooting out of your shotgun?

Weasel, I don't use any factory ammo.

Depending on the situation etc., I use either F buck, Hevishot BB (not the same as HeviX), or TSS in #2 or #4.

If I were to use factory ammo it would probably be #4 buck.
