I hear coyotes howling at night, rarely if ever during the day. Why would I start a set with a lonesome howl during daytime. Seems out of place. Help me understand.

I live in Central Missouri and here coyotes like clockwork at sunset, work odd hours and here them all hours of the night. not sure what happens in other areas but they constantly answer me. now getting them killed i defer to better hunters than me I'm just starting to learn how to use coyote vocals.

I have had a lot more coyotes come in silent to howls than those that howl back. They want to know who the invader is in their territory. If you howl but don't hear a return howl, that sure does not mean that they are not responding.
