That was my Spring Tip.....use Pup in Distress or Rabbit in Distress!

Turkey sounds are great this time of Year and Fawn in Distress also.....I had just used my mouth call/rabbit in distress when I called in my last Coyote just days ago!

GTOHunter, I wasn't arguing. My point was that I started the thread and it was about using turkey decoys and sounds to lure coyotes in during the spring. It has nothing to do with pup distress or rabbit distress.

Turkey decoys are good to go in the spring. Try the gobbler fight and the coyotes can't resist.

I've had some success with a coyote decoy or turkey decoy this time of year and through spring, but keep in mind decoy has to be visible, to make sure it can be seen easily. Get it out into open, I like round bails pop it on top( don't damage bail)!! You can even use the other sounds not only coyote.

I think next time i hunt the property behind my house i will use turkey sounds and a decoy. I was just thinking about that the other day, i know i can recall several turkey hunts from the past were i have called in yotes and bobcats even had a yote attack my decoy before. Thanx for the advice.

I have wanted to use a turkey call and decoy for predators, but Game Wardens around here will bust you in a second if it isn't turkey season and you don't have the proper license and tags. Not only that, you are limited as to weapon and shot size. That said, I will have a tag and if any coyote shows up while I'm calling for turkeys during the open season my turkey hunt will become a coyote hunt.

It works. Last spring youth turkey hunt. I was calling for my son and a coyote came running hard and nearly attacked the decoy. My uncle showed me the bite marks in his decoy.
Weasel, we have the same regs for the turkey season period on coyotes.

Here in maryland I would not think that would cause you an issue. The issue is killing a turkey so as long as you are not harvesting the out of season game animal there is no violation committed. Its ok to use a fawn decoy with fawn in distress sounds as long as you dont shoot a deer out of season or the rabbit decoy with rabbit sounds without shooting an out of season rabbit. Just dont shoot the incoming tom out of decoy defense.

Yea here in nc aslong as u dont kill a turkey u can use calls and decoys along with any weapon u wanna use, unless u r on public land u can only hunt if turkey season is in or another game season with only a legal weapon for that game
