Well while I think the 17wsm is still on my wishlist for a dedicated fox/coon gun I sidetracked and purchased a dpms oracle yesterday in 223. Went out and tried a couple of my fox spots and while I didn't call in any I had yotes howling back everywhere! This part of indiana is getting overrun with them, like many parts of the country, and I think I'll turn my attention to them for now. Thanks for the responses guys and happy hunting

I disagree on the 17 WSM. I was so excited about that round for foxes but after watching 3 different ones run off i sold and picked up a 204. So far i'm tickled, no damage and lights out on cats and Grey Foxes

I have a savage 204 I love. Only shot one yotes with it. Tiny pinhole going in and no exit. Dropped like he was hit by lightening lol. That's with hornady 40 grain vmax ( all I've ever shot out of it). What ammo you shooting to not blow foxes up?

Was that factory or reloaded 40gr? What kind of grouping were you getting?

That's good for factory 40gr........most barrels won't stabilize the heavier 20 cal bullets.

Can't decide between 22 mag, 17 wsm, or 22 hornet. Hear 22 hornet is an excellent round but ammo is hard to find and I don't reload. 17 wsm sounds promising if can find one that shoots well. Suggestions

there is so many good choices for coons, small coyotes , foxs, etc one of my favorites is the 221 fireball 45gn bullet at 3100fps = instant dead for most critters we dont have much for coons here but more than our share of badgers, coyotes and foxs, crows , magpies and other flying rats and the 221 fb just gets it done with little more noise than a 22 hornet and about 200 fps more vel.

Hornady factory 32 grain Vmax. I figured less chance of a exit then the 40 grain bullets.
