Recycling Styrofoam

A few years ago, I recycled Styrofoam into large oversized swan decoys. Painted with UV white paint…they work better than any mojo motion duck decoy for visibility (can be seen a long way)…and no one else has anything like it. We can’t shoot swans here…but we have them. The ducks and geese often pitch right to the swans decoys…they love em. Me too.

The swans are Styrofoam with a salt treated plywood bottom with a 2X2 salt treated keel, salt treated plywood tails, burlap wrapped (using a hot glue gun), covered in resin (fiberglass resin…two coats) the painted with three coats UV Vision white decoy paint.

The duck decoys in the picture are suoer magnum herters decoys which are about as big as you can get...and the swans dwarf them.

Those are incredible! I had no idea you were so talented.
Years ago I hunted an area that had very few Canadas. I added a pair of Canada field decoys on the bank near my duck spread and it had the ducks dropping in without hesitation.
I'm betting your barrel is going to be warm for many seasons to come.

Weasel...one cool thing about the three dozen duck decoys and 10 canada goose decoys I use (since I was a kid) on the tidal rivers...they were my old man's who passed away almost 40 years ago. Being Super Magnum Herters (the originals) they were foam...I burlap wrapped and covered them with resin (made then tuff as nails). Repaced all screw eyes with stainless. Gave them coats of UV decoy pait last year. After 40+ years...they are still killing birds...pretty cool to be using 40 year old decoys that my pop shot birds over (can you tell I am proud of that)

You did great job restoring and perserving those old duck decoys to able to keep using them, nice to see. great idea on those swan decoys your very artistic, i too use swans and geese in my sets always works for me around here duck hunting on the farm..

Which state is that? I have never seen swans decoys used in Delaware. The old timers on the Maryland Eastern Shore said "visabilty is everything when it comes to decoy spreads". Looks like you and I are on the same path.
