Night hunting Help

Monday night I was hunting and I played a few female howls followed by pup distress 3. A coyote popped out about 300 yards or so to my left and started to run down the edge of the woods towards me when all of the sudden it goes back into the woods and never seen again. My wind was perfect and everything, this has also been happening to me a lot lately. Any ideas?

Could you have been silhouetted? Did you move or make noise? More than likely he went around you to come in downwind, they will do that most of the time. I try and leave a shooting lane open downwind just in case they come in down wind. What set up are you using? NV/thermal or lights?

Where did you place your caller? Was it between you and the yote as it was running towards you?

I had a good tree line all around me so I don't think I was silhouetted. I set up with the wind blowing in my face and my call directly in front of me. And I use Night vision to shoot with and a red light to scan.

Are lighting him up as he is coming in (all the light on him) or just keeping his eyes glowing with the halo of your light?
The center of the beam of the light will send them other way most of the time
When scanning keep the center of beam 10 - 15 off the ground so only the halo will hit them in the eyes
