I Have been shooting a 22 wmr for a long time and that round will drop pretty much anything under 100 yards. Its all about the shot placement!!!!!!!!! Last year I shot a gray fox behind the shoulder at 7 yards and a red fox at 98 yards in the forehead both did not know what hit them. lights out!
I think it would drop a Coyote with good shot placement,my Buddy put down a Coyote with just a .22LR but it was a Semi-Automatic and He put at least 3 quick rounds in Her!
I just bought a Savage model 93 bolt-action .22 Magnum myself,I plan on using 30-40 grain hollow points from CCI in hopes it will do more damage and with good shot placement it should put a Coyote down.I would think Your .22 Hornet would be just as good a round and not do much damage on Foxes,Bobcats as well as Coyotes!
I usually Coyote Hunt with my Savage Axis .223 bolt-action or I use my CZ model 527 "Varmint" in the .204 caliber both are fast shooting Calibers and I use ballistic tip bullets in both Rifle where they make a small entry hole and no exit hole.....are You shooting ballistic tip bullets out of Your .22 Hornet? That may help You in less pelt damage and it will expand more after entering to help put down a Coyote!
I'm looking at a savage 22 mag for predator hunting. I know it will drop a coon and fox. but if I keep my shots under 100 yards do you think it would drop a missouri yote some tell me it would some tell me it won't. I've currently been using a 22 hornet for yotes but I want something smaller for fox and coon 2
